Billy served as the 6th Director of WVU Extension. In addition to his legacy as an administrator, countless West Virginia University students have benefitted from Bill Coffindaffer's opportunities for hands-on learning through endowed internships and more. He understood the value of community and worked throughout his life to strengthen the bonds between local communities and WVU Extension. I was honored to have the opportunity to meet him several times during the past two years and celebrate his outstanding contributions. His happy demeanor and passion for Extension will remain in our thoughts.
Dr. Jorge Atiles, Dean and Director, WVU Extension

I’m so incredibly sad to hear of of Dr. Coffindaffer’s death. I worked as Dr. C’s assistant year’s ago at the Chamber of Commerce. I have incredibly fond memories teaching Billy and Greg how to use a computer and both of them teasing mercilessly “why do they call it a mouse?” Billy & Norma were both such sweet souls and they loved encouraging my husband and I as we were married and finished up our education in Morgantown. I’m sure Heaven’s gain was beautiful as they were reunited. ~Michele Ballard

It is with sadness I send prayers and thoughts while having many memories of Billy and his family. I was a County Extension Agent in W.Va while Billy was the Dean of West Va. U Extension Service and he arranged for me to pursue my MS degree in Home Economics which was and is greatly appreciated. Also, Art was the family's pastor at St. John's U.M. Church of Teays Valley, WV. Norma and Bill attended our 50th wedding Anniversary in 2007 in N.C. which was a wonderful gift.
Many more memories of his caring service. My love and continued prayers for Billy's family.

The world is a sadder place today, because Billy is gone from us. He was pure delight in human form and will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. I know Norma was waiting for him with open arms and a big smile, just as I know how happy he was to see her again.
I had the pleasure of working with Billy on the Riverfront Park project in Star City and truly loved him from the day we met. He was always so enthusiastic and he could get you on board with any project he was involved with, because he believed in it so much. I served as his secretary/typist and he was always so grateful when I could jump in at the last minute to finish a grant application or some other document he needed, "as soon as you can, please!" I always said he was like a happy, smiling little leprechaun. As such an inspiring and knowledgeable person, he was also one of the most humble men I ever met and never wanted any special accolades or recognition.
I hope it comforts his family to know how much he meant to so many people and how much we will miss him. Billy, my friend, rest in peace with your beloved Norma and know that your memory will continue to be a blessing to those who loved you, as well as to the greater Morgantown community to which you contributed so much.
