Verna named me "Ornery" and had me chased down and held down many times in and around the Phi Sig kitchen/dining area so she could paddle me for casually disrespecting her authority (I had it coming...)...she also hired me as the house dishwasher and grocery-shopper for about 2 years in a row...we all loved her dearly...she and Bonnie were honest-to-goodness house "mothers..." There are people that have profound impacts on who we are and what we become. Verna was one of those people for me and all the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity at WVU that knew her. She was our Mother, Friend, Mentor and Advisor in life. It is impossible to describe or put into words how she touched so many lives and what she has meant to me personally over the years. I have been blessed to have had her in my life, even for a short time, and although saddened by her departure and the loss of her. I look forward to seeing her again.
