There really still are no words....I just don't want to believe it! I can't even remember HOW I met Dale, but I know that every occurrence thereafter, was pure fun! Wolf's personality always shone through and he never met a stranger. I know that I met him somewhere around the time of the Football Letterman's Club when I attended an event with some college friends. We chatted about an idea he had, which became The Varsity Club, and how I had a bunch of phone numbers for friends who were former players. I always teased him about that; I just handed over my phone to him! Later, I introduced my brother (a WVU alum and former athlete) to Wolf at an event and that was the beginning of the WVU Track/XC reunions, sponsored by The Varsity Club. Wolf truly aimed to please and he was the best person for the job, in my opinion. I also got to see him in action as a dad. Most recently, with Kyle and how much he did to help him (and all of his boys) just navigate life. I am truly going to miss him and that big personality of his. To Kath, as he always lovingly referred to her, and the boys, my heart breaks for you and please know that I am sending you so much love!!

I don’t know how often Dale Wolfley heard “Thank You!” during his life, but I’ll guess the number was in the tens of thousands. Time and time again, Dale stepped up to help people, often without them asking, to make something possible. I’ve heard countless stories of people saying, “Dale did this,” “Dale made it happen,” and “Dale went out of his way.” I am testimony to his graciousness and “Let me help you!” spirit. He was, in three words, “There to Serve,” no matter his role or how well he knew you. To me, that’s what made Wolf an extraordinary human being. I especially miss his passion, dedication, and straight talk, and the way he reached out to so many people and included them in his circle of relationships. Those are four (among many) reasons why those of us who knew him need to do whatever we can to keep Wolf’s spirit and approach alive. He showed us the way. Now it’s up to us.

Dale and I had communicated on the telephone but I I first met "Wolf" in 2018 in WVU Med Center. My kids had purchased me a 3 day meditation and yoga retreat package at Snowshoe, W.Va. for my 70th birthday. On the second evening of that trip, a section of my colon basically exploded due to diverticulitis ans I was medivaced to WVU Med Center for emergency surgery.
Lying in the recovery room the morning after, there he was, bigger than life, knowing that I had played on the 1969 Peach Bowl Team, he was immediately encouraging me in my recovery saying, " Come on Plumley, sometimes you have to play with paun!". How he found out I was there I will never know.
In 2019 I got to know Dale a lot more as he was the driving force with the University in helping me organize the 50th reunion of our 1969 Peach Bowl Team. I can honestly say, without Wolf's dedication to The Mountaineers and his tenacity in staying after Shane Lyons and others, we would not have had anything close to the experience he arranged for our brotherhood.
Not only a true Mountaineer but also a true friend, I will greatly miss his exuberance and loyalty to Mountaineers everywhere!
Rest in Peace, my friend, and one day, we will be re-united and can rejoice in our memories of our days togrthrr as Mountaineers.

Wolf was one of a kind! He’s Mr. Mountaineer in my book but beyond that, he was Mr. Dad. Nobody loved their children more than Dale loved his. He touched so many people in his life, more than he realized! Rest easy big guy.
