I was so saddened to learn of Bob’s passing. Like John Ellis, I have known Bob since 7th grade. We were locker mates then. We shared so many experiences as we were growing up. Golf and swimming at the old Morgantown Country Club every summer stand out for me. It was so enjoyable for me and my wife to share some quality time with Bob and Sue at our recent 62nd class reunion this summer. After reading about all the achievements in his life, it just re-enforced to me how special he was. He was always a person of integrity and compassion, and lived his life honorably. He lived with passion and service and his being on this Earth had meaning to so many others. What higher calling can one have than to serve God and thus his fellow man in such an unselfish way! I must say well done to him. I feel that God kinda likes persons such as Bob because Bob “gets it” and he is now enjoying a well deserved rest before his next “assignment”. Rest in peace dear man. And of course my greatest sympathies to Sue and all their children, grandchildren, and friends. May you all find comfort in all the memories you have shared together. With all my respect, Jack Weaver

It was an honor to know Bob! Such a genuinely kind person. One of my favorite memories is when we were chatting after church and asking if he ever makes it to any WVU basketball games. He then told us that him and Sue were season pass holders! Love it! Tom has nice memories serving in EQ with him as well. My favorite is the story about Bob giving Tom and Casey a fist pump after they guessed correctly about something funny. He also served very selflessly and in a Christlike way. Thank you for making the world a better place!

I was privileged to be Bob's friend for over 40 years and his family’s church home teacher for many years. I greatly appreciated his making it easy for me to make appointments for my monthly visits and always making me feel welcome. One time, I remember Bob saying he would like to be remembered as a good man. Well, he certainly equaled or exceeded the highest quality of that virtue. On his passing, he deserved having the state flag lowered to half mast and the many other accolades he received. I will miss Bob and look forward to being with him again in the next life.

I want the family members, especially the children of Judge Stone, to know how special their father was to those of us who attended WVU Engineering School with him. I was one of the two other Engineering grads to go on to law school with Bob. After that I got to observe his service as a WV Legislator and worked with him to obtain enactment of legislation to improve salaries and benefits for WV teachers. He supported my efforts as State Treasurer to bring the Best Available Practices to the management and investment of all major WV State Funds during his service as a WV Legislator. In later years he permitted me to hold hearings in his Morgantown Courtroom when, as a Federal Bankruptcy Judge, I had matters that for the convenience of the litigants should be held in Morgantown. Bob was a brilliant and thoughtful friend. His compassion and skill as an attorney and Judge was recognized and appreciated far and wide across WV. 11/11/23 Ron Pearson, Retired US Bankruptcy Judge

Arguably the finest Judge I ever appeared before in over 40 years as an attorney. Totally fair, impartial, honest, intelligent. Also a fine human being. He will be missed.

I have enjoyed my friendship with Bob for over 70 years. We played Little League Baseball (IOFF) and Midget Basketball (Painters Local) together back in the good old days. More recently, I have enjoyed sharing our weekly lunch group where he impressed us with his knowledge about the Pittsburgh Pirates. He and Sue have been good friends to both of us.

Sue and Family,
We feel so blessed to have met and gotten to know Bob. He was a wealth of wisdom and insight. He had some great stories to tell and we enjoyed them all. In particular, I'll miss his humorous whispered side comments when he would sit next to me in Sunday School. There were serious ones too, and just from those small moments I know he was a man of great faith. He will truly be missed.
With love and sympathy,
Kristina, Jared, Riley, Kale'a, and Kanna

I was once told that the reason loved one seem to get better before passing, is that their spirit is arguing with heavenly messengers for more time with loved ones. There is little doubt of Bob's love for his family and his desire not to leave his dear wife. May God bless you all!

When I was very young, Bob was at a meeting with my Dad and others at my house. I wandered around the room during the meeting and Bob called me over and taught me how to draw a five-point star without lifting up your pen. I stood by him and practiced for a while. He was a great person. Love to Sue and the kids!

Dear Sue,
Nadine and I are saddened to hear of Bob's passing. We love him, and you, so very much. So very many memories - races, Sunday School classes, firesides at your house. I still remember when our youngest, Robert, was born. At church the next Sunday, both Robert's in our ward, Robert Stone and Robert Whitmore, were thrilled that we were naming our son Robert. We did, and still do, call him "Bobbo." Your Bob was a fine man and a tremendous example. All our best to you and your darling family.
Love,
Boyd and Nadine Edwards

Bob was a wonderful person! In 1974 he was my first ecclesiastical leader—the branch president of our small church group. He was unfailingly kind and thoughtful. He did a great job leading his fellow members at church. Everyone loved Bob and Sue and their children. We served with him in church for many years. He is someone really remarkable and our hearts ache for his family.

As Bob's bishop and friend, I'm not sure I've ever met a more dedicated servant, devoted husband and father, or king and loving friend. His decades-long leadership in our church and in our community leaves a lasting legacy. Rest well, my friend. Until we meet again.
