Obituary of Virginia Sterling Maddox

Virginia (Ginny) Sterling Maddox, 102, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Sundale.
Virginia was born in Rowlesburg on September 4, 1921, the daughter of the late Harry Carl Sterling and Agnes McVicker Sterling.
The Morgantown High School and West Virginia University graduate belonged to the American Association of University Women, Kappa Phi, the Methodist Woman’s Club and the Morgantown Woman’s Club. She was a charter member and co-founder of Morgantown Jr. Woman’s Club. Later she enjoyed the Lancaster, VA Woman’s Club and the Historyland Club of Lancaster. She loved to play bridge.
After retiring from Westover Bank, she spent several years in Florida and Virginia before returning to Morgantown in 2007. She belonged to the WVU Alumni Association and was proud to be a WVU Emeritus Club member.
Ginny is survived by a daughter, Jane Maddox Bishop; a son, Rodney Maddox, and his wife, Marion; five grandchildren: Morgan Bishop Dawson and her husband, Kevin; Colby Bishop and his wife, Callie; Jeremy Maddox and his wife, Carrie; Justin Maddox and his wife, Erin; Hailie Maddox Fisher and her husband, Marcus; seven great-grandchildren: Sebastian and Savannah Maddox, Kiley Maddox; Abigail, Amelia, and Everett Fisher; Olivia and Mason Dawson; nieces, Pamela Yagle and her husband, Karl; Karen Bevan and her husband, William; and Deborah Sterling and her husband, Tom Lindsay.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: David Sterling and his wife, Edna, plus Carl Sterling and his wife, Sylvia; a sister, Theo Deem, and her husband, Paul; and a son-in-law, Barry Bishop.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. funeral service with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Mon Health Foundation in support of heart and vascular care, 1200 J.D. Anderson Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505.
