Obituary of Michael Anthony Guthrie

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Anthony Guthrie, 64, of St. Albans, WV, went home to be with the Lord on March 1st, 2024 with his wife by his side at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV after a battle with Plasma Cell Leukemia. Mike was born in Indiana on October 22nd, 1959, the son of the late Eloise Ernestine Welker Guthrie and Ralph Ward Guthrie. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Robin Lee Woods Guthrie; daughter, Tiffany Guthrie Shumate and her husband Zane, along with their children, Seth and Gavin Dye; daughter, Kelsey Guthrie Knotts and her husband Brice; one grandson, Fynn Richards; and siblings, Pam Dean and Chuck Guthrie. Our hearts are full knowing that Mike is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Eloise and Ralph, as well as his sister, Debbie Luster. Despite the excuses he could have relied on, Mike left a positive mark on this world in many ways. The most important will be the family and friends that were blessed with his love, fierce loyalty, and honest nature. Depending on the setting of your memories of Mike, when you think back, you are either smirking about his ever-present sense of humor or rolling your eyes because your mind can hear one of his regular remarks such as, "I know them, we went to different high schools together." As an incredibly skilled mason who took pride in his work, Mike's imprint can be seen across Florida and West Virginia. At times, eighteen wheels took him even further, stretching all the way across to California and back hauling anything and everything. He made it all look easy with a remarkable work ethic that he used to build a life with his wife and daughters. One of Mike's greatest joys was to throw a line off the back of a pontoon boat at Summersville Lake, even if nothing was caught. Mike's adventures shaped him beautifully in ways that led him to stand up for those who couldn't stand up for themselves, and to have the audacity to drink chocolate milk at lunch on a hot workday in the Florida sun. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his friends and caregivers at WVU Medicine, Amedysis Home Health, and Hastings Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16th from 2-4pm at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene, 3937 Teays Valley Rd., Hurricane, WV, 25526. True to Mike's simple nature, fancy or casual is up to you. All are welcome to join his family to share memories and laughs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WVU Cancer Institute, One Waterfront Place, 7th Floor, Morgantown, WV 26507. https://give.wvu.edu/campaign/wvu-cancer-institute/c430764 Online condolences can be shared with the family at hastingsfuneralhome.com.
