Michael Lloyd Matheny, 74, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Madison Center. He was born December 1, 1949 in Richmond, Indiana, a son of the late Lloyd Allen Matheny and Norma Jean (Bishop) Kemp. He was a graduate of Eaton High School in Ohio and loved playing various sports. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and having ice cream when they visited. In his free time, he enjoyed watching Westerns and cheering on the West Virginia University. He enjoyed taking trips to various Civil War battlefields and even enjoyed trips to the beach with his family. He was also always willing to banter back and forth about politics with his son. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna (Hess) Matheny; children, Travis Matheny and Brittany Bradley; grandchildren, Cody Arnett, Azia Katuszonek, Landon Matheny, Jordin Matheny, Brayden Matheny, Payton Matheny, Amayah Bradley, and Cameron Baker; and sisters, Connie Busick and Kim Cole. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Brett Matheny, and step father Norm Kemp. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Madison Center for their love and compassion. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. Morgantown, on Tuesday, March 19th from 5-8 PM. Those attending are asked to wear gold and blue in memory of his love of the Mountaineers. Following the visitation, cremation will be provided.
