Luella Hastings Schlobohm, 95, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024. She was born August 2, 1928 in the Cheat Neck community of Monongalia County, the daughter of the late Edgar and Ruth Simmons Hastings. Luella was a graduate of University High School and a member of Spruce St. United Methodist Church since December 1958. She was actively involved in various church groups, including The Ruth Circle and United Methodist Women, where she cooked and served dinners and made countless crafts for bazaars. Every summer she hosted church picnics, Hughart's Plumbing picnics, and family gatherings at their summer home of 53 years at Lake O'Woods. Luella was a survivor of breast cancer and was the first and original advocate for Reach for Recovery through Mon General Hospital, helping other women with breast cancer. She started the OFF Club (Out for Fun) with a group of close friends and enjoyed it for over 20 years. She was the last surviving member. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ralph Edward Schlobohm. Together they owned and operated Hughart's Plumbing Supply. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, Oliver, and Warren, and two sisters, Emaline and Helen. Luella is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ross and Arlene Schlobohm of Bruceton Mills, and Gary and Maria Schlobohm, of Morgantown; one niece she called her daughter, Ruth Ann Riley and her husband Rex; five grandchildren, Lori Gyorko and husband Randy, of Morgantown, Brooke Early and husband William, of Chesapeake, VA, Kristi Koon and husband Tim, of Morgantown, Heather Gilliland and husband Sean, of North Port, FL, and Scott Schlobohm and wife Cate, of Morgantown; and nine great-grandchildren; Colin Gyorko, Hank Early, Sadie Early, Harper Koon, Bree Gyorko, Cooper Koon, Joe Schlobohm, Annabel Gilliland and Bonnie Schlobohm. In her last few years, Luella lived in the Memory Unit of Harmony of Morgantown. She loved her caregivers and was treated with pure love and devotion! The family couldn't be more grateful for their care. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Saturday, June 8th from 10AM until the time of the funeral service at noon, with Rev. Bart Thompson, officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Spruce Street United Women in Faith, 386 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV 26505.
