Obituary of Shirley Ann Blosser
Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Shirley Ann Blosser, affectionately known as Shirshy, a beacon of maternal warmth and unwavering love, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, in her hometown of Morgantown, WV. Born on May 23, 1939, to the late Ralph Parker Grimes and Gladys May (née Johnson) Grimes, Shirley lived a life marked by generosity, selflessness, and wisdom.
Shirley's journey began in the rolling hills of Morgantown, where she was raised alongside her five brothers, Melvin, Jimmy, Larry, Jerry, and Gary Grimes, and her sisters, Iva Lou Grimes and Joyce Marie Giles. Her life was a testament to familial bonds, a narrative woven with the threads of love and shared experiences. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Ray Blosser, former Morgantown City Police Officer, and carried the legacy of her parents and siblings in her heart.
Shirley's own family flourished under her nurturing care. She is survived by her loving daughters, Laura Blosser and her wife Nancy Drake, Deanna Blosser, and Rhonda (Blizzard) Robinette, an additional beloved daughter. Her grandchildren, John and wife Hannah Wiles, Kayla Wiles, Jamie Blizzard, and four great-grandchildren, Laila, Braydon, Iva Wiles, and Brianna Dennison, will forever cherish the memories of their matriarch's (Nanny) tender affection and guiding light. A special bond was shared with her Aunt Charmane Todd, and the numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she adored and who brought her immeasurable joy.
Throughout her life, Shirley embraced the role of motherhood with open arms and an open heart. She extended her maternal grace beyond her own family, raising many children as though they were her own, providing them with courage, guidance, and a deep well of love. Her spirit was that of a true mother, always seeing the best in everyone, and her legacy is etched in the lives of those she touched.
A woman of many interests, Shirley's days were often spent singing and tending to her beloved flower gardens, where she found solace and joy in the beauty of nature's canvas. Her competitive spirit shone brightly during card games, a pastime she relished with friends and family. Known as a champion of word puzzles, she wielded language with the same love and care that she did all aspects of her life. However, it was her family that remained her greatest passion, the heart of her world.
Shirley's life was a living embodiment of the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." Her selfless nature was evident in all she did, from her generous heart to her wise counsel. Those who knew her were touched by her kindness and her unwavering commitment to lifting others up.
As we bid farewell to Shirley Ann Blosser, we celebrate a life rich in love and service. Her memory will continue to inspire us to lead with compassion, to find joy in the simple pleasures of life, and to cherish the bonds of family above all else. Shirshy's legacy is not only in the family she raised and the lives she touched but also in the example she set for all who knew her. Her wisdom, her selflessness, and her generous spirit will be deeply missed, but her influence will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
"I love you most."
