Jason and I began to grow our friendship and mutual respect for one another while he was a student at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where I was a professor. We hiked, camped, canoed, and cycled thousands of miles together. The attached photo is from our spring break trip together 20 years ago to Copper Canyon, Mexico. I'm eternally grateful for his generous friendship.

I sat next to Jason many times during our years at Mount Pleasant Elementary School. He was funny and kind. I will always remember his laughter and his smirk- especially at the antics of John Logar. I am so, so sorry for those who are close to him. The world is a little more quiet without his light in it.

I moved to Morgantown in 1990 and was a junior at University High School when I met Jason. He was my best friend, the best you could ever hope to know. He taught me how to play the guitar, something I love to this very day, and am forever grateful for it. I have countless fond memories of guitars, mountain bikes, hiking, and camping. It's great knowing he never lost his adventurous spirit. I know he will be greatly missed by all who ever knew him. I'll miss you dude.

Jason and I used to hang out on my front porch and play guitar and sing harmony with my mom. He was an incredibly kind person who taught grace, generosity, and compassion by example. I was an older and wilder teenager whom he taught to listen to the wind and embrace our belonging to the natural world. I haven’t seen him in years, but I cannot believe he is gone. I’m measurably a better person because of his friendship…

To know Jason was to love him. It was impossible not to delight in his adventurous experiences and life stories. Jason was one of the kindest people I have ever met…much like his father. There will forever be a hole left where Jason used to be, but I will keep his spirit alive in all things beautiful in this world. Jason, you will be greatly missed and loved…always!

I’ll always remember Jason’s sweet smile and kind heart. He was truly a one-of-a-kind individual….quiet but perceptive and really cared about how others were doing. He will be missed.

I remember Jason so well. He was one of my son’s best friends in high school. My heart is broken from his passing. We lost Billy several years ago at the age of 36. I guess in my mind and heart, somehow I hope they have reunited, and that friendship continues on forever… ❤️
