Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mildred Anna Viola, 97, of Westover, died October 29, 2024 at Select Specialty Hospital/Mon Health. Born May 3, 1927 in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late George & Mary (Petrock) Wallo, who immigrated to America from Slovakia in the early 1900s. She was Catholic and a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish. Mildred grew up on a farm in Hildebrand, in rural Monongalia County, during the Great Depression, and attended Waitman-Barbe School and Morgantown High. During and after World War II, she worked at McCrory's five-and-dime store on High Street. She married Joseph Albino Viola, a coal miner and WW2 veteran, and together they raised three children. She was a homemaker and loved all aspects of domestic life; taking care of her home, cooking, sewing, embroidery & crochet, canning homegrown vegetables, hanging out clothes, but most of all spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by her children, Joseph O. Viola (wife Betsy) of Eglon, WV, Rebecca George (husband Leonard) of Mt. Morris, PA, and Annette Viola of Westover, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Select Specialty Hospital located at Mon Health Medical Center for their exceptional care and professionalism. Burial will be held at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens and plans are incomplete. Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com
