Obituary of Richard "Dick" Riley

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard "Dick" Riley, 84, of Morgantown, WV, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving friends and family. Born December 22, 1939, in Maidsville, WV, to Herbert H. and Georgia Wolfe Riley, Dick lived a life filled with love, laughter, and selfless generosity. Dick had a gift for making people laugh, whether he was telling one of his wild tales, lovingly teasing the kids, or cracking a joke when it was least expected. His laughter was infectious, and his big heart knew no bounds-he'd do anything for anyone, no matter the time or place. A retired coal miner, Dick carried a quiet strength, humility, and work ethic that left an impression on everyone who had the joy of knowing him. Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Lillie Mae, with whom he shared 64 beautiful years of marriage, as well as his children, Rodney Richard Riley (Judy) and Penny Louise Riley; two "second" children, Ricki Fowler (Diane) and Pam Varner (Scott), grandchildren, Rodney Riley, Jr. (Cassie), Meghan Riley (Jay), Holli McMillen (Amanda), Caressa Delaney (Dusty), Kayla McMillen (Willis), Aaron Riley (Amber), Philip Jones, Elizabeth Reed, Jackson, Hunter, and Jesse; and great-grandchildren, Neveah, Hunter, Mason, Wade, Keara, Katey, Desmond, Bentley, Abigail, Elijah, Cecelia, Xavier, and Clarity. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The family would like to thank Sarah, McKenzie, and Maizie for their compassionate care and support during his final days. His hospice nurses lovingly called him a "fighter," a title he more than earned, as he faced even his hardest days with grit, determination, and a spirit that inspired everyone around him. Friends and family will be received at Burns United Methodist Church, 1809 Summers School Rd, Morgantown, on Friday, November 29th from 11AM until the time of the celebration of life at 1:00PM, with Pastor Donna Dalton officiating. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lady's Aide Auxiliary, Burn's Chapel United Methodist Church, 2300 Summers School Road, Morgantown WV, 26508. Dick, you will be deeply missed, but your humor, kindness, and larger-than-life spirit will forever echo in the hearts of your family, friends, and everyone lucky enough to have known you. Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com
