We grew up knowing the McKays as our folks were very close friends. Ernie (nicknamed ‘Butt’!) filmed the WVU football games during the years my dad was coaching so they were pals and his mom was a character but also stylish and crafty. Our families vacationed together a couple times to DC and the beach but except for pictures I only have vague recollections of that. My best memories of Steve were as kids, not adults as I was gone for 30 years, but mostly i remember how funny, clever and artistic he was. He was my favorite as we were closer in age and he was the more outgoing/friendly. When they came to visit, we would end up in the basement/rec room with him always drawing on our chalkboard, seemed like comic book ‘monsters’ maybe? They were so good, detailed we wouldn’t erase them but leave up until the next time they came over. I remember many nights running around the hotel with them as he and Rick would wreak havoc, like turning the EXIT signs upside down and messing with the kitchen staff, hiding pots and plates?
Steve and Sam helped me with a home project when I came back to M/town and he would often call me when there was someone good on PBS (Linda Ronstadt, Eagles) that he thought I might like, possibly at Joan’s suggestion but not sure about that. We lost a good one in him last week. My sincere condolences to Judy as it seems the rest of the family are reuniting in Heaven this Christmas and I promise to look after Joan for ya, buddy❣️

Steve was a great artist, football player and basically "Jack of all Trades" I enjoyed having him in art class and coaching him on the football field! Never a dull moment when he was present, and that was a good thing!

Q: What was Steven like as a child?
A: I was a childhood friend of Steve during junior high school and early high school. I remember visiting him and his family at their residence in the Hotel Morgan. We thought that he had a pretty cool lifestyle as a teenager. Steve was very popular and very friendly. He will be missed. Blessings, Dale Davenport
