Obituary of Janet Jean Hertig
Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Jean Hertig (Schiffbauer), age 72, of Valley Point Community of Preston County, WV, formerly or Morgantown, WV, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital Morgantown, WV.
Born in Morgantown in 1952 to the late Bernard Eugene and Mary Louise Schiffbauer, Janet graduated from Morgantown High School, class of 1970. She worked 35 years in conference services at Lakeview Resort and Conference Center in Morgantown until her retirement in 2017.
Janet enjoyed travel, her horses, and any cat that happened to stay in our barn. She loved gardening and crafting Native American artwork. She prided her beadwork hat bands and dreamcatchers, which sold in stores across the country, from Raindance Indian Art in Jackson Hole, WY to Buckaroo Hatery near Nashville, TN. No matter where she was in whatever capacity, she truly never met a stranger!
Janet is survived by her children, Brian (Tracy) of Lebanon, VA, Carl Christian (Sonya) of Goode, VA; five grandchildren, Hunter, Zach, and Emma of Lebanon, VA, and Cameron and Aaron, of Goode, VA.
Also surviving Janet are her brothers, Terry (Becky) and Mark (Lisa), both of Morgantown, WV, and a sister, Sue Hilsman of Sherrills Ford, NC, along with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed dearly by her horses, barn cats, and devoted Blue Heeler, Sage !
Lastly, Janet is survived by her loving partner in life for the last 42 years, Fred Zara of Valley Point.
Janet was preceded in death by her much-loved parents.
As Janet had requested, her body will be cremated, and her ashes distributed among her favorite places in this life. There will be a Celebration of Life (Summer 2025) with arrangements announced at a later date on her Facebook page.
The family wishes to thank Ruby Memorial Hospital and The Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center for their kindness and care during her battle, and a very special THANK YOU to Ruby ICU nurse Gingie for all her kindness and compassionate care she provided to Janet and her many family members in their time of grief ... you're the BEST!!
