Obituary of Norma Joan Stimmell
Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pastor Norma Stimmell of the Kingwood Pike in Morgantown, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Morgantown on March 9, 1941 to the late Gertie and Pat Gilmore. On May 12, 1957 she married the love of her life, Charles "Date" Stimmell, and made a happy home for over 65 years until he passed away September 2, 2022.
Norma was employed by Valcraft Glass Factory in her early years until she fully committed her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, becoming a full-time minister.
In October 1973, she helped to found Glorybound Tabernacle on the Kingwood Pike. She continued to minister there until her health declined in recent months. She touched and blessed so many lives through her ministry and generously giving heart. "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee crown of life."
Unable to have children of her own, her home was always open to neighborhood children and her nieces and nephews who treasured her. Norma "mothered" her church family and provided many delicious meals and desserts for her community.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Viola and Carl Stimmell; her sister, Carolyn Dalton; brothers, Junior Gilmore, Ronnie Gilmore and Lonnie Woody; brother-in-law, Terry Lewis; nephew, Charlie Hart; niece, Nikki Livengood; and cousin, Jane Thorne.
Norma is survived by her sister and best friend, Martha "Bill" Hart; brother, George Gilmore (Linda); sisters-in-law, Margaret Ellen Lewis, Connie Gilmore; aunt, Pauline Walker; and a niece whom she helped to raise, Kristin Nicholson (Nathan); and grandchildren who were the joys of her life, Greyson, Remington, Kaidence, Jakob, and Braelynn; niece, Brenda Hendershot (George); a special cousin, Frank Hart; and her dog, Chloe.
The family wishes to thank her loving church family and nieces and nephews that were constantly there for her during her illness. A very special thanks for Kristin and Nathan who resided with her, and Brenda and George for all their care since her husband passed. "Well done thou good and faithful servant."
Friends and family will be received at Glorybound Tabernacle, 2250 Kingwood Pike, Morgantown, on Wednesday, January 1st, from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00PM, with Pastor Donna Dalton and Pastor Gwen McKinley co-officiating.
