One of best jobs I’ve ever had in my 50odd years in Morgantown was working for Bill Coombs or Coombs
I always called him Mr C.
Flowers. I was the delivery flower boy
Who doesn’t like receiving a bouquet of flowers
There’s a certain magic associated with receiving flowers. It has an air of goodness, beauty and renewal. I was lucky enough to meet a vast variety of Morgantown citizens who would share their life stories. People who would be filled with joy or cry with happiness or grief or thankful someone remembered their birthday.
Mr. C. Made my job easy and fun. I remember when times were slow in the summer , I would frequent the Spaceport Arcade on high street or I would go home for a quick lunch and a short nap. But when the holidays came round;
Valentine,Mother’s Day,Easter ,thanksgiving and especially Christmas.
Poinsettias all over the place. I would work twelve hour days. I did not mind. It was a goal to accomplish and it was fun.
Mr. C was the nicest, kindest,thoughtful, generous, business savvy employer I have ever known.
In the years following my employment, Mr. C and I would run into each other and exchange pleasantries.
I have always respected his work ethics and gentle demeanor
I am glad he lived a long and prosperous life.
Mr. C , you are in my heart

Mr Coombs and his entire family were such wonderful members of St. Paul’s. My father was pastor there from the 1970’s until his retirement in the 90’s. The church always looked so beautiful at Christmas, Easter, and so many times of the year thanks to the Coombs family. May the many warm memories of a true gentleman carry friends and family during this difficult season.
