Obituary of Clifford James May, Sr.

Clifford James May, Sr., 93, of Morgantown and formerly of Summers School Rd., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, February 17, 2025. He was born on August 5, 1931, the son of the late Walter and Lula (Jackson) May. Clifford was a hardworking man who spent most of his life in the mines. His passion for mechanics kept him busy long after retirement as he continued working right up until his passing. He was a faithful member of Burns Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed the simple things in life such as hunting and fishing, watching westerns and cowboy shows, and spending time with his beloved dog, Duke. Above all, his greatest pleasures were listening to gospel music his wife, Edna, and Sunday dinners with family. Clifford is survived by his four children, Donna Blosser and her husband, Gerald, Linda Gilmore and her husband, George, Jim May and his wife, Mary Ann, and Allen May and his wife, Dodie. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet Shaffer and her husband, Butch, Judy Johnson, Susan Greaser and her husband, Greg, and Joyce Cotrell. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Ruth May; his daughter, Mary Lou Anderson and her husband, Terry; his grandson, Jeff Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Thomas and Kayla Thomas; four brothers, Bob May, Junior May, David May, and Roger May; and three sisters, Phyllis Johnson, Betty Lou Shaffer, and Fannie Kleps. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 1:00PM at Davis Cemetery in Morgantown, WV with Pastor Stephen Prince officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Burns Chapel United Methodist Church, 1809 Summers School Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508. Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
