Fred Johnson, 83, of Morgantown, passed away with his loving wife by his side on Sunday, February 14th at his residence. He was born May 23, 1932 in Lake Lynn, PA, a son of the late Fred Johnson, Sr. and Bertha (Bryner) Johnson. Mr. Johnson was Methodist by faith and served in the United States Army. He was a life member of the VFW Post #548 and was the owner and operator of Freddie’s Body Shop. He formerly enjoyed racing at the Morgantown Speedway and various other local race tracks and was known as “Fireball Freddie.” Every morning he enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at Ruby and Ketchy’s. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Frances (Dean) Johnson; siblings, Ruth Roberston of Union, SC, Jess Eggleston of Chester, VA, Rose Kitis of Uniontown, PA, Ray Johnson and his wife Velma of Lake Lynn, PA; sister in law, Mary Ellen Blaney of Morgantown; special nephews, George Leydig and his wife Judy of Morgantown, and Larry Baker and his wife Judy of Pt. Marion, PA; and special great niece, Summer Dodson and her husband Craig of North Carolina; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Sarah Baker, Betty Dean, Tommy Johnson, and Alice Fay Johnson. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Wednesday, February 17th from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday, February 18th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Rev. Edward Burnette officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown. Online condolences may be made at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com.
