Marguerite Ann (St. John) Gabriele, 86, of Morgantown, WV, formerly of White Plains, NY, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on April 4, 2016. She was born January 27, 1930 in Glens Falls, NY, the daughter of Clifford and Marguerite St. John. She graduated from Glens Falls High School, then attended Albertus Magnus College of Dominican Sisters in New Haven, Connecticut until 1952. After college, she graduated from Yale Nursing School with a master’s degree in 1955. She worked as a nurse and taught pediatric, neurosurgical and emergency nursing in New Haven and later as a member of the faculty of the Nursing School of West Virginia University. In 1960, she married Dr. Orlando F. Gabriele and together they have four children and nine grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Dr. Fred Gabriele, of Morgantown, his wife Mary, and their children Isabella, Anthony, and Dominic; Marguerite Horvath, of Morgantown, her husband David and their son Nicholas; Dr. Michael Gabriele, of Pittsburgh, PA, his wife Colleen, and their children, Paige, Kyra, Ethan, Roman and Arianna; and Peter Gabriele, of Marietta, GA, and his wife Stephanie Prosek. She is also survived by her nephews, William and Michael St. John. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dr. William St. John and his wife Mary, and by her cousin, Doris Corbett. Marguerite, known to her friends as Marge, enjoyed spending time with her many dear friends, playing tennis, skiing, attending the theater, symphony and art galleries. She was an avid patron of the arts, who after retirement, became an accomplished painter, displaying some of her art internationally in Paris and Madrid as well as the Ezair Gallery of Contemporary Art in NYC and the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in Chelsea, NY. Marguerite and her family extend a special thank you to the staff of Mapleshire for their kind and compassionate care and support. In keeping with her wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 4 pm until the time of the memorial service at 6 pm with Father Jeremiah Lange, OSB officiating.
