Linus E. “Carl” Carlson, 93 passed away on Tuesday August 9, 2016. He was born on November 12, 1922 in Port Jervis NY to Linus V. and Mary G. Flynn Carlson. He was preceded in death by both parents, sister Ann C. Kent of Glenford, NY and brother Richard Carlson. Carl is survived by his wife of 69 years Bertha Karllo Carlson, Karen Carlson of Tucson AZ, Paul and Sharon Carlson, Shannon Carlson and grandson Quinn Passon of Lake Oswego, OR, Peter and Eileen and Sean Ryan Carlson of Washington, DC, Martha(Marti)and Tom, Caroline and Logan Shamberger & Tessa Maynard of Morgantown, WV and Philip Carlson of Tiburon, CA. Carl was inspired to study engineering after attending the 1939 World’s Fair in New York City. He boarded the train from his hometown to Ann Arbor MI where he graduated from the UM School of Engineering as a Chemical Engineer. Always a proud Michigan fan-GO Blue!. Carl served in the Army in the Pacific during World War II. Returning to Ann Arbor to complete his degree he met Bertha who was a nurse at University hospital. They got married on Sept 9, 1947. After graduation from U of MI, Carl was hired by the Union Carbide Corporation as a chemical engineer in Niagara Falls NY. After several years he was transferred to So. Charleston WV where Carl retired from Union Carbide after 36 years of service. Bertha and Carl retired to Ocala Fl were they lived for 26 years. In October 2011 Bertha and Carl moved to the Suites at the Village at Heritage Point in Morgantown, WV. Carl’s wishes of cremation are under the care of Hastings Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Village at Heritage Point on Tuesday August 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to Empty Bowls of Monongalia, 7 Rousch Drive, Morgantown WV 26501, or a charity of your choice.
