Obituary of Martha Lou Spenger

Martha Lou Spenger, 77, of Elmhurst Street, Morgantown died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Golden Living in Waynesburg, PA after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born August 13, 1939 in Wheeling the daughter of the late Robert and Virginia Spenger. She graduated from Wheeling High School in 1957. Martha was a graduate of West Virginia University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After college she moved to Washington DC where she worked on Capitol Hill for several congressman including seven years for Senator John Warner of Virginia. She lived and worked in Washington over 20 years. In the early 90’s Martha relocated to Morgantown to take care of her mother who was suffering with Parkinson’s disease. While she was in Morgantown she worked for Epscor a division of the National Science Foundation, from 1994-1999 under Director Frank Calzonetti. Martha is survived by her sister, Ruth Gardner of Morgantown and two nephews Jason Price of Morgantown and Stuart Price of Salt Lake City, Utah. The family wants to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Alzheimers Unit at Golden Living in Waynesburg for the wonderful and kind care they took with Martha. It was very much appreciated. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Sunday, August 21st from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Randall Flanagan officiating. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling on Monday, August 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Zelewicz officiating.
