Hi, my name is Susan. I dated Eddie ( what I called him back then), when I was 16 yrs old. He was my first love.
We broke up when Eddie went off to college at WVU.
I will always remember his warm smile, bright eyes and fun personality.
I’m happy he met the true love of his life and had 3 beautiful children. Reading the memories from people over the years, it’s clear he had a profound effect on many.
He clearly had a beautiful life and made significant contributions to his community snd the world.
I’m so sad Ed’s life was cut short. I will always treasure my memories of him. My sincere condolences to the family and all his friends and colleagues.
He will be missed by all that knew him.
Sincerely Susan Frongillo

I am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was a true gentleman and left me with many life lessons.
When I look back on my life, I hope not to measure success by the material items that I have accumulated or the professional accolades that I have received. Rather, I will look at my family and whether I have meaningfully impacted the lives of others. Through this lens, Ed was tremendous success.
By way of background, Ed was my coach for two years. We had hour-long phone conversations every week. He was always honest with me and challenged me. We had very personal conversations. We shared a deep love and pride in our families. He displayed a great moral compass.
As a coach, he left me with life lessons that I will remember for the rest of my life. One of those lessons was that of "awareness, intentionality and accountability." Be aware of your surroundings and situation. Be honest in your assessment. Be intentional in your actions. If you desire to make a change, how are you going to proactively accomplish change. Lastly, hold yourself accountable. Recognize your success and failures - no excuses. I believe the biggest compliment to a person is to say they have made a difference in someone's life. Ed DeCosta made a difference in how I approach my life.

I was very blessed to have Ed as an amazing mentor, coach at my John Maxwell leadership coach graduation in Orlando in 2016. I am so grateful to carry those memories of his God given gift of humor and crystal clear training. Having been Facebook friends for seven years, I appreciated his consistent posts of encouragement. Driving I-77 through West Virginia often to see my mother in Ohio, Ed always came to mind. He is now at rest in the presence of our Saviour, and we will meet again. Praying for the peace that passes understanding for his family

My heart is breaking for Linda, Ed's family, and all of his friends. He is such a blessing and inspiration to all of us. He touched so many lives from the smallest of children to all the seniors he met. Always welcomed everyone with a smile and caring heart. I prayed that the Lord would give me inspiration for the confirmation class. He gave us Ed. What a treasure to watch him inspire, care, and love all the students even when he wasn't feeling all that great himself. You could feel the love pouring right out of him. You can see Jesus working through him continuously. He has a deep love for our Lord and all his people. His words, stories, and actions impacted us all and will never be forgotten. I can't thank Jesus enough for blessing our class with Ed and the difference he made in all of our lives. His love for his family, beginning with his beautiful wife Linda, is such an inspiration for all families. He will be deeply missed, a true friend and role model. May God's perpetual light shine upon Ed's soul and may God bless Linda, his family, and friends with strength and peace. As we battle this sadness and sorrowfulness felt in our hearts, let's reflect on what Ed taught us through his love of God, his family, and inspirational memories.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said this about success: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”
A kind, compassionate, and intelligent man. Ed most definitely succeeded! You will be missed.

As a new lector at St. Luke, I was paired with Ed. We were paired for a few years and Ed began referring to me as "My church wife." We became friends. Even though he wouldn't allow me to join the men's Saturday group ( I asked him once a year) we had wonderful discussions. He was kind, funny, and I'll miss not seeing him in the row in front of me every Sunday. He always sat one seat over so that he wouldn't block my view of the altar. I already deeply miss you Ed. Love you my friend.

Ed helped students to have a unique opportunity to see their business idea become a reality. It was my pleasure to work with Ed for over 20 years. I met Ed DeCosta five years ago in response to a global invitation he had extended to the men of St. Luke’s Parish to join “The Men’s Group.” I had no way of realizing at the time that accepting that invitation would become a pivotal moment in my spiritual journey. For this, I will always be in his debt. In many ways, Ed — although several years my junior — has been a spiritual mentor whose example I will always value. Ed strove to be the Lord’s faithful disciple. He had brilliant, profound insights about God’s love for his children. He served his parish. He volunteered in the community. He proclaimed the Good News to others. He adored Linda; loved his children; and doted over his grandchildren. He devoted his career to coaching others to be the best they could be! He was patient and steadfast even in the face of significant health issues which would have defeated less resolute, less faith-filled men. In sum, Ed DeCosta was a righteous man.
Ed has left our presence, and this is painful. But he is not out of our lives. I choose to believe that, for reasons we are unable to grasp now, Ed has been called to assist in preparing a place in heaven for family and friends. I marvel at the thought that he now has actual knowledge of things that our group could only hope, pray and speculate about. He will continue to inspire us. He will be a stronger prayer warrior than ever before. I am grateful for Ed’s friendship. May the Lord promptly grant him his eternal reward; and, deliver mercy, hope and consolation to his wonderful family, his colleagues and his friends.
