Sallie Ann Jackson Core Lucas, 78, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.She was born on Mississippi St. in Morgantown on April 15, 1934, a daughter of the late Roy Martin Jackson and the late Edith Mary (West) Jackson.She attended local schools including Morgantown High School, where she graduated with the class of 1952. Additionally, she took classes in interior design at the New York School of Interior Design. She was employed from 1958-1996 at different places in the area, including the A&P Supermarkets, First National Bank, the Town of Star City, J.C. Penney Co., Morgantown Job Service and Morgantown Unemployment Office. During her high school years, she also worked at the G.C. Murphy Co. on High St. in Morgantown.Her many hobbies included reading, writing poetry for family members, playing the piano and organ, going to the Longest Yard Sale, traveling to Amish Country and Nags Head, NC, and spending time with her family, her friends and her cat, Misty. She particularly loved to watch her grandson Scottie play basketball. She loved attending church when her health permitted, bible study and Southern Gospel Music. She had attended the Riverside Apostolic Church in Westover and the Goshen Baptist Church Bible Study. She belonged to the Lowery-Miracle Music as a member and student. She enjoyed meeting and greeting people and felt like everyone she met was an education â" meaning the each of us could learn something different from everyone else. She had many friends and loved them each in their own way.Survivors include her second husband, John G. Lucas her daughter, Ellen Christine Core Colflesh and her husband Ronald Richard Colflesh her son, Carroll Scott Core and his wife Joyce Scott Core her beloved grandchildren, Kristin Maria Colflesh Carter and her husband Roger Ty Carter, Karey Anne Colflesh and Christopher Scott Core two great-grandchildren, Cadence Carter and Rocco Kennedy a step-son, Steven Lucas and his wife Michelle of Amherst, OH step-daughters, Suzanne Kosky and her husband Bob Kosky of Grafton, OH, and Stefanie Chritton of Lakeland, FL and her step-grandchildren, Holly Kennedy, Heather Stawicki, Jarred Lucas, Justin Lucas, Abby Rose Chritton.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carroll Ross Core, and a sister, Doris Louise Jackson.Mrs. Lucas will lie in repose on Thursday, October 18 at Riverside Apostolic Church, Dents Run Blvd., Westover, WV from 2-4 & 6-9 pm and again on Friday, October 19 from 10-11 AM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday morning at the church with Pastor David Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Morgantown.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Lucasâs name to Stepping Stones, 400 Mylan Park Lane, Morgantown, WV 26501 or Monongalia County Special Olympics, PO Box 41, Morgantown, WV 26505.Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown is in charge of the arrangements.
