Jeanne Burkhart Selby of Brookfield, WI passed away peacefully on July 16, 2012 at the age of 89.Jeanne was born January 1, 1923 in Mechanicsburg, PA, the daughter of the late Hazel Shover Burkhart and the late Dr. Roy A. Burkhart, a founder of First Community Church of Columbus, OH.Jeanne attended Otterbein College in Westerville, OH and received her B.A. degree in Psychology from Ohio State University in 1945, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.Jeanne and Paul L. Selby, Jr. were married in June of 1945, and lived in the Columbus, OH area while Paul built up a law practice and then went on to teach law at Ohio State. Meanwhile, Jeanne and Paul became the proud parents of Stephen, Mark and Daniel. The family moved to Morgantown, WV when Paul was offered the position of Dean of Law at West Virginia University in 1963, where they lived, worked and raised their children. Paul and Jeanne had been married for 54 years when he passed away in 1999.Jeanne was a member of the West Virginia University Campus Club and a life member and volunteer for the Friends of Ruby Memorial Hospital, West Virginia University. She stayed in touch with many friends from early days on, and cherished several close friendships in Morgantown and Columbus.She had lived in Wisconsin since 2005 to be near her son Mark A. (Dian/Dee). Her presence in their lives was special, important and wonderful for all of her Wisconsin relatives. Although Jeanne learned to value the Green Bay Packers, she always remained first and foremost a Buckeye and a Mountaineer.In addition to Mark, Jeanne is also survived by her sons Stephen A. Selby of Key West, FL and Daniel L. Selby of Hurricane, WV and five grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) Selby of Middleburg, FL, Heidi Seaborn (Robert) of Johnson Creek, WI, Amy Slusher (Jeffrey) of Ashville, NC Emily Nelson (Patrick) of Charleston and Daniel P. Selby (fiancé Toni) of Washington, DC.Jeanne is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Alexandra Selby, Wil and Ben Slusher, and Sarah and Hannah Seaborn. She will be missed greatly by all of them for the sweet, kind and always encouraging lady that she was.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William E. Burkhart, MD.Her family would like to thank the loving care of Dr. Kathleen Phelan and the staff at Brookfield Regency for the past six years, and for the kind and compassionate care of the nursing staff of Linden Grove Waukesha and Seasons Hospice.A private graveside committal service will be held at the East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgntown, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
