Obituary of Bernadine Smith

Bernadine âSmittyâ Smith, 85, and affectionately known as Gram, of Morgantown passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Madison Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.She was born August 25, 1926, in Monongah, WV daughter of the late Lester and Zella Shelton. She retired form Monongalia General Hospital in 1996 after more than 20 years of service. Recognized by her blaze red hair, Smitty was adored by patients and staff alike. She enjoyed yard work and raised a variety of house plants and flowers. Her window sills were always lined with African Violets.Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Sharon Smith, of Cardington, OH, three grandchildren, Jhoni Smith, of Morgantown, WV, Lester Smith, Jr. of Morgantown, WV and Troy (Tina) Smith, of Des Moines, IA sister, Juanita West, Tiffin, OH three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Bernadine was preceded in death by her beloved husband âPappyâ Everette Smith, son Lester Smith, Sr., three siblings, Lester Shelton, Jr., Edward Shelton and Maxine Shelton and two great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown Saturday, June 2, from 1:00p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00p.m. with Rev. Tim W. Halloran officiating. Burial will at Faiview Cemetery, in Pisgah, WV.
