Charles Robert McFadden, 80, of Morgantown, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Monongalia General Hospital with his wife and oldest son at his side.Charles was born in Ovapa, WV on May 5, 1932, a son of the late Robert Leonard McFadden and the late Luella Clare Norris McFadden.He graduated from St. Maryâs High School in St. Maryâs, WV and West Virginia University with a degree in Geology.He enlisted in the US Army and served his tour of duty in Croix Chapeau, France.He was employed with the Coal Research Bureau, College of Mineral and Energy Resources for 25 years as an Engineering Scientist, Technical Editor/Illustrator and Co-author. He did home remodeling, enjoyed woodworking, photography, gardening and mentoring his three children. He enjoyed sports and was an avid WVU Mountaineer and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Ann McFadden his three children, Robert Clay McFadden and spouse Valerie of Friendswood, TX, John Scott McFadden and spouse, Terri of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Elizabeth Anne McFadden of Delray Beach, FL his granddaughter, Lauren Ashley McFadden his grandson, Evan Patrick McFadden three sisters, Mary Agnes Shepherd of Parkersburg, WV, Betty Rea of Williamstown, WV and Pat Bergstrom of Seville, OH and one brother, Danny McFadden of Bridgeport, WV.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John E. McFadden and three brothers-in-law, John Shepherd, Walter Rea and Larry Bergstrom. The family will receive friends at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday, May 9th. Following visitation, the family will hold a private graveside committal service, with full military honors accorded, at the West Virginia Nartional Cemetery in Pruntytown. Mr. McFaddenâs family wishes to extend a very sincere thanks to the ICU, Respiratory, and Dialysis staff members of the third floor at Monongalia General Hospital for their dedicated care and compassion.
