Dear Rita,
I just saw this as I was looking for an address in Morgantown. I am so sorry to learn about Stephen's passing. I was really fond of him as so many people were and still have memories of him walking down High Street with me when I had some problem or other and trying to help me fix it.
I don't know if you will ever see this but if you do, know that I am thinking about you and wishing you and your family well and hope that you are finding your way down this really difficult path without your husband.
Sending love to you all.
Sheila

Deeply saddened to hear about Stephen's passing. Stephen and Rita were my host family while I was graduate student at WVU in 1967-1968. I still remember him picking me up in his Gold car( I forget the model - but it was one of the first few front wheel drive cars and it had a medallion "Specially made for Stephen Tanner". Rita and Stephen were great and understanding hosts( they put up with our cultural faux pas cheerfully). I remember clearly how they took me to their temple where I had the honor of hearing a talk by Edward Teller the renowned nuclear physicist. I still recall their home on Louise Dr with the filled in pool. The kids were quite young then. I still cherish and have with me their graduation gift to me - a tan briefcase. Would love to get in touch with the family again.

Tanners - One of the perks of being Lynn's friend for so many years was the opportunity I got to meet Papa Louie and both you and your husband, Mrs. Tanner and, of course, the rest of your wonderful family. It was such a treat to be with all of you in Morgantown and an experience I will always remember and cherish. My love to all of you.xoxo marcy

To all the Tanner family,I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. Stephen was always so kind when I would see him at the office, with an inquiry about our family or a remembrance of past times which I appreciated. He always had a smile and a light manner and I know that he will be missed by his family but also by all of Morgantown for all his philanthropic deeds. My deepest sympathy.Susan
