Thank you everybody I am very grateful for all of your amazing comments I dearly miss my great-grandfather though I was only just about 2 when he died and I don't really remember my great-grandfather. The funny thing is I was actually looking for pictures of my grandfather for veterans day when I found this and I wish all you amazing people and your families an amazing life.

I am saddened to hear that we have lost one of my favorite professors and a former neighbor. I first encountered Oscar and his wife when I would go up to their place with my parents to buy plants at their little 'farm' on the hill above what is currently Virginia Manor subdivision. We always had fun selecting plants and hearing about their culture from Oscar and Phoebe. Little did I know then, that eventually I would end up in the horticulture program at WVU. While there, I got to know Oscar better, and experience his kind, humorous, and generous, spirit. His classes always made learning great fun, and I devoured his knowledge about so many plants and fruits. I still remember wonderful warm sunny Fall days when I had horticulture lab at the WVU Farm. He was more than happy to share all his practical and technical experience with us. And, of course, when we got to do 'taste tests' of the many varieties of fruits and crops he was growing, we were thrilled. Our family moved to Virginia Manor in Morgantown when I started college. So, Oscar was also a neighbor as well as a professor to me. My parents were friends with he and his wife, particularly though their garden club activities. After graduating from WVU, I left Morgantown and unfortunately never really saw Oscar again. How I would have loved to sit down with him and thank him for the wonderful education I received and how very much I enjoyed his classes. Thank you Oscar, I shall miss you! Your beaming smile and generosity will be always etched in my mind.David J. Pierce WVU Horticulture, class of 1969

I WAS ABOUT 14 WHEN YOUR MOM AND DAD MOVED ON THE HILL. MY DAD TOLD ME TO TAKE THE TRACTOR UP ON THE HILL AND HELP YOUR DAD "GRUB" THE HILL. WE PULLED AND DUG EVERY SMALL TREE AND BUSH OFF THE HILL. IT WAS NOT A ONE DAY JOB BUT YOUR DAD NEVER STOPPED AND EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE HE WOULD GIVE HIS LITTLE CHUCKLE AND WOULD SAY THAT DIDN'T WORK TO WELL, BUT HE NEVER GAVE UP.THE SUMMER OF 2003 WE WENT UP TO SEE YOUR MOM AND DAD AND TIME HAD SLOWED THEM DOWN BUT YOU ALWAYS GOT A BIG SMILE FROM BOTH WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT THE OLD DAYS.YOUR MOM AND DAD WERE GOOD PEOPLE AND I FEEL BLESSED THAT I KNEW THEM.

Dr. Schubert was one of the best. He was always available to help students in and outside of class - very patient and understanding. He was advisor of the Horticulture Club when I was involved in it. He encouraged us to become involved in different plant science activities. Mrs. Schubert was always a huge help in the Ag Engineering Library. The world has lost 2 beautiful people, but now they are reunited. May God hold the Schubert family in the palm of His hand. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Gary and Alice,I am so sorry to hear this. While I only spoke with your Dad on a few occasions, I do remember him as a strikingly benevolent soul. I never saw him without a smile and a certain calm about him. That may not be your recollection because I am sure that he must have on occasion been that "sargent " that he was in the army. That list of honor societies is really amazing -- it gives me solace to find that he is my brother as a member of Phi Kappa Phi. All said, he seemed to enjoy life and lived it fully -- it is obvious with your sailing and busy summers touring that you, Alice and the kids have learned from Oscar how best to cherish time itself. He certainly live a very full life and seems to have departed with all his life's wishes fulfilled -- we will miss him.Tom, Lindsey and Madina
