Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles William âBillâ Buseman, 87, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Heritage Suites. He was born in Morgantown on June 3, 1924.After graduating from Morgantown High School in 1942, Bill entered WVU but enlisted in the Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war, Bill chose to enter the family business rather than returning to college. He helped his mother Gay and their business partner Robert Kennell grow Buseman & Kennell into a successful retail and contract painting firm that supported dozens of employees. Billâs crew considered him a good boss who cared personally for them and their families. Billâs peers in contracting knew him to be reliable and honestâ"always able to show up and to finish up under the most challenging deadlines. In business, as in his personal life, he was trustworthy and genuine in his respect and regard for others. His successful business provided lives and futures for his and his employeesâ families for more than 3 decades. Buseman & Kennell closed doors in its 50th year blessing Bill and his wife with a long and happy retirement. Bill also returned from service in the Pacific to marry his junior high sweetheart Rosamond Henderson. They moved to Evansdale in 1953 where they raised their three children. In that house he and Rosamond had shared love and laughter teaching the same work ethic Bill practiced in all he did. On the weekends they taught a play ethic at their Cheat Lake cottage. Bill lived in the family home for twelve years after he lost his beloved Rosamond to cancer in 1998.Over the years Bill loved boating, water skiing, golf and fishing with his family and friends. Trips to a fishing camp in Canada that grew from family excursions to an annual escape with the dearest men in his life were especially treasured. But he also loved to put his boat on his truck and spend time on Dunkard for both fish and tranquility. Bill was a powerhouse on the dance floor. On many occasions other dancers would stop and step back when Bill had a talented dance partner in his arms. He often told his daughter of the things he missed most in his later years it was his dear Rosamond, his mother who died in 2001 and dancing. Bill participated in many organizations but his involvement with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was most satisfying. The combination of fraternity and charity offered through the Elks held Billâs loyalty from his thirties until his death. As an active member he served the Elks in many positions including Exalted Ruler in the 1960âs. After 57 years of living in Evansdale, Bill moved to Heritage Suites in October 2010. He often said âitâs not exactly like home but itâs a really good place to live.â The Suites provided Bill with both a place to live and a group of peers. The last year of his life was greatly enhanced by the care of the staff and the friendship of his fellow residents. Bill is survived by his children Penny (Marion âMunâ) Kostka and Kenneth Buseman of Morgantown, and his son William (Kim) Buseman of Centreville, VA, he is also survived by his grandchildren Bethany (Paul) Siciliano of Pittsburgh, PA, Melissa (Max) Watson of Cumberland, MD, and Jeff ( Mia) Barb of Vienna, VA. Along with his 8 great-grandchildren Alanna (22), Hyland (16), Madeline (15), Hannah (13), Geno (7), Lane (5), Gabriel (3) and Judah (1). Bill also leaves his dear Jane Kiger who illuminated his last decade. IN his year in Heritage Bill was blessed with the warm companionship of Martha Manning who will miss him every day.
