Obituary of R. Marton

Ronald Timothy âTimâ Marton, 66, of Morgantown, WV, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.Tim was born in Teaneck, NJ on Ocotber 5, 1945, the son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Burton) Marton of Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Roberta âBobbieâ Brandt. Tim graduated with dual degrees in astronomy and physics from Penn State University where he had a National Science Foundation Fellowship in astronomy. In 48 years he never missed viewing a PSU football game and proudly wore their colors even while representing WVU as one of the original Gold and Blue Ambassadors. He retired as Director of Information Systems at WVU in 2008, having previously worked in the computer industry across the country. He moved to WV in 1994 where he served as the Director of Information Systems for the Division of Environmental Protection and subsequently the Bureau of Employment Programs in Charleston, WV before matriculating to Morgantown to work for WVU. Timâs quiet demeanor often disguised his wry sense of humor and brilliant mind. He loved playing âat golfâ with the Mon Valley Golf Tour but, particularly with his brothers. His mind was made for bridge and he enjoyed flexing that mind every week as a member of the Mountaineer Duplicate Bridge Club. He loved to entertain and cooked a mean leg of lamb, which he always served with a great cabernet. A gamesman at heart he knew the name of every movie, tv show and sporting event of the last century which made him a sought after partner in the Gamerâs Group. Finally, he was a charter member and the only elected officer: âBeer Meister Temperature Qualifierâ of the Chicken Wing Eaters Club of America, Chapter 17 located in Morgantown, WV his adopted home. Tim grew up in the Pittsburgh area, the eldest of six siblings: Brad Marton and family of Greensburg, PA Scott Marton and family of Pittsburgh, PA Craig Marton and family of St. Louis, MO Cindy Hackman and family of Gilbert, SC and Barry Marton and family of Sheybogan, WI.Additionally, he was devoted to his wifeâs family: father-in-law Robert L. Brandt, USAF retired and wife Bette of OH Cindy Poole and family of MD Dr. Bob Brandt of OH Steve Brandt, USAF retired of FL and he was particularly devoted to the family of Terry Stinson(deceased) of OH, who adopted him as one of her own. He was the proud âUncle Timâ of 22 nieces and nephews and never tired of hearing of their accomplishments or laughing at their misadventures.Cremation Services provided by Hastings Funeral Home.
