"Sissy" (the only name I ever knew her by) was my Grandfather's (Walter Schnell) niece. I have such fond memories of visiting her and her family when I was a child. She was a fun person and our family was always so proud of her. She will be missed by many, but always remembered with a smile!

I am so saddened with the passing of "Sissie". Ronny (my brother) and I have thought of her often and talked about the good times we all had. "Sisie" was my favorite ever since I was a little girl. She had a beautiful laugh and smile. She will be truly missed by all who were blessed to know her and love her.

Ethel Montiegal was perhaps the most gifted and inspiring professor that I encountered during my undergraduate years at WVU in the 70's. She was truly my favorite, and I have often thought of her over the years. I was fortunate enough to have had her recommendation when I applied to medical school, and I honestly believe that her generous letter had great impact on my ability to attend med school. She will have my eternal respect and gratitude.Jeff Hallett, M.D.Georgetown, Texas

Leah and family members, you have my deepest sympathies. Ethel was a very caring and giving friend. Without her instrumental role in the formulation of the WVU Health Careers Opportunity Program, it would not have come into being. Her involvement and teaching in HCOP for several years subsequently, enabled it to grow and serve many deserving students. I am enjoyed working with her. Please know that God will help you through this time of loss and grief. Paul Clausell

So sorry to hear of your loss Leah, and Ethel's family. The Biology Department will always remember Ethel's many contributions and her caring for our undergraduate pre-med majors. Ann and I will always remember Ethel's early impact on our family through hiring Ann to help with the HCOP program, which was certainly a launching point for her career. Best wishes.
