Winfred C. âDustyâ DeWeese, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born in Belington, WV, July 16, 1920, son of the late Clyde Dewey and Nellie Bly Corley DeWeese. He was a graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School, Clarksburg, WV, where he served as President of the class of 1942. He was a 3 year 11 month veteran of the Army Air Force, having enlisted in World War II in January of 1942. He was a Tech Sgt. Serving in the East Indies, Papua, New Guinea and the Western Pacific. Dusty was employed at National Carbon, Anmore, WV and later served as a Deputy Sheriff in Harrison County. He was employed as a Claims Representative for State Auto Mutual Insurance Companies, retiring with over 30 years of service. He was a 47 year member of the Morgantown BPO Elks Lodge 411. He served as Exalted Ruler 1969-70 Trustee 1970-75 DDGER 1975-76 WV State Vice President 1977-80 WV State President 1980-81 and WV State Trustee 1981-86. With his concern for the youth of the state, he served many years as Chairman of the State Elks Major Projects. He was a charter member of the Beau Monde dance club and a member of the Pines Country Club, spending many days on the links with his friends. Dusty is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Patricia June Coleman DeWeese two daughters, Deborah Ann Gooden of Washington, PA and Robin June McCarty of Dataw Island, SC a grandson, Christopher M. Gooden of Washington, PA a brother and sister-in-law, Basil and Ruth DeWeese nieces Diane Apruzzese, Susan DeWeese and Jennifer Krinke, all of Eberbach, Germany and a sister, Flora E. Bailey of Mt. Claire, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharman Bly DeWeese son-in-law, C. Gordon McCarty brother Robert DeWeese and brother-in-law, Charles Bailey. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV on Tuesday, August 16 from 7-9 pm Wednesday, August 17 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. with an Elks memorial service held at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home Thursday, August 18 at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Garden, Quiet Dell, WV.
