Obituary of Nellie Nickodem

Nellie Frances Nickodem, 97, of Star City, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Sundale Nursing Home. Nellie was born in Winnipeg, Canada on January 3, 1914, the daughter of the late Vincent and Henritta Zaprzala Warzocha. She was a member of St. Maryâs Catholic Church. She had been a florist for many years where she worked at Morgantown Florist and Gutta Girls. She also worked in Microbiology at West Virginia University Hospital where she retired. She enjoyed crocheting and traveling. She is survived by her daughter, Marcella Hill and husband, Allen, a son, Jacob John Nickodem and wife, Mary Jo and 4 grandchildren, Heather Cheatham and husband, Patrick, Lt. Col. Jessica Rhyne and husband, Lt. Col. Allan Rhyne, Brandee Nickodem and Charles Cheatham, as well as two great-granddaughters, Ruby and Roxy Ryne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jake Nickodem. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 7-9pm on Tuesday, July 19 and from 9-10am on Wednesday, July 20. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 10am with Father John V. DiBacco officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice Care Corporation, 3363 University Ave., Morgantown, WV 26505.
