Betty J. DeFere, 89, of Richland Ave., Morgantown, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at Sundale Nursing Home.Betty was born in Morgantown on June 11, 1921, the daughter of the late Thomas and Bernadine (DeWitt) Little.She was Presbyterian by faith. She was a former president of the Ladies Golf Association of the Morgantown Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed bowling and was an avid Mountaineer fan that always followed football. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her sons Jeffrey DeFere of Morgantown, Richard DeFere and wife, Mary of Clarksville, TN, her grandchildren Erin DeFere, Renee Singleton, Suzanne Dowdle and Michael DeFere, her great grandchildren Alex Singleton, Sara Singleton, Hayden Dowdle, and Lauren DeFere all of Tennessee, as well as a brother, Thomas Charles Little, Jr. of Richmond, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert DeFere and two sisters, Thomasine Hannon and Peggy Wildey. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 4-7pm on Monday, May 23, and on Tuesday, from 9:30am until the time of the funeral service in the funeral home at 10:30am. Interment will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover.
