Dr. Robert Leo Robinson, Ph.D., 84, of Tibbs Rd., Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at his residence.He was born in Kansas City, MO on March 14, 1926, a son of the late William Leo Michler and the late Mable (Hutton) Michler.A graduate of Kansas University where he received his Doctorate Degree in Pharmacology, he was one of the original staff members of the School of Pharmacology at West Virginia University. His career there spanned 29 years from 1959 until his retirement in 1988.He was a veteran of the United States Army, having obtained the rank of Sergeant while serving during World War II.He was also an amateur astronomer, and a member of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers. He was an avid carpenter / handyman and enjoyed building telescopes, observatories and even dulcimers. He was an excellent photographer and painted wonderful pictures throughout his life, including those inspired by his world and European travels (including once by bicycle). Additionally, he was a former board member of the West Virginia Rivers Coalition. Survivors include his two sons, Michael Robin Robinson of Charlottesville, VA and Paul Christopher Robinson of Boulder, CO and his friend of many years, caregiver Deborah Wise with whom he made his home.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Barbara Amoss Robinson in 1994, and a brother, William Michler.Dr. Robinsonâs wishes for cremation have been honored by his family.Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown for a memorial visitation to be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 7:00 â" 8:30 PM.
