Lucy âArrettaâ McDonald Nicholson, 80, of Summers School Road, Morgantown, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Monongalia General Hospital.Aretta was born in Morgantown on October 2, 1928, a daughter of the late Jesse and Hannah Hilling McDonald.Arretta was a lifelong member of the Beulah Free Methodist Church. She retired from the Housekeeping Department of West Virginia University, working at the Towers. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and crocheting. She is survived by her children, Delmar Nicholson and wife Barbara of Morgantown, Melody Perry and husband Larry of Morgantown, Valerie Nicholson and Larry Showalter both of Floyd, VA, and Barry Nicholson of Morgantown her grandchildren, Mary Bolyard, Larry Perry Jr., Joshua Showalter, Belinda Nicholson, Willard (Willie) Nicholson, Brandon Nicholson, Barry Nicholson Jr., and Cara Showalter three great-grandchildren, Nathan Perry, Zacery and Brianna OâConnor three sisters-in-law, Ethel McDonald, Rose McDonald, and Wanda McDonald as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willard G. Nicholson, granddaughter, Freda Perry, a daughter-in-law, Joann Nicholson, brothers, Delmar, Lawrence, Howard, Warren and Calvin McDonald, sisters, Viola Hess, Elnora Sturms, and Celia McDonald, sister-in-laws, Grace, Jean, and Geraldine McDonald and brothers-in-law, Roe Hess and Tilden Sturms. Mrs. Nicholsonâs family would like express a sincere thank you for the care received from Donna, Mary, Courtney, Angel and Craig of Tender Loving Care Hospice. Friends will be received at Nicholson Chapel Church on Summers School Rd. from 3pm Tuesday, July 14, 2009 until the time of the funeral service at 11am Wednesday, July 15, with Rev. Robert Dickens and John Conaway officiating. Burial will follow in Nicholson Chapel Cemetery. Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown is in charge of the arrangements.
