Tharon Verdaunta Bennett (nee Johnson), 89, formerly of Park St., Morgantown, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, December 22, 2012 in the presence of her family at Evergreen Assisted Living on Collins Ferry Rd..
She was born in Morgantown on September 10, 1923, a daughter of the late Howard M. Johnson, DDS of Morgantown, and the late Thelma Yanchus (nee Fitts) of Masontown, PA.
Survivors include her only daughter, Diane Bennett, formerly of Morgantown and now residing of Los Altos, CA; two grandsons, Christopher of Sunnyvale, CA and Matthew of Los Altos, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Parker both of Sunnyvale, CA. She was blessed to have Mary De Moss as her friend for over 54 years, and other longtime friends David and Darlene Fogerty and Lucille Pierce, whom she loved like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her former husband, Howard Bennett.
Mrs. Bennett graduated from Monongah High School and worked for the telephone company in Fairmont, Cleveland and Morgantown for over 40 years. She was a member of the Spruce St. United Methodist Church, a life member of the Telephone Company Pioneers and served as a volunteer at WVU Hospital for many years.
Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, watching her grandsons grow into caring, successful young men and caring for her beloved cat, "Kitty"
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 6-8 PM on Friday, December 28th and again on Saturday, December 29th from 12:30 PM until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 PM with Rev. Dr. John E. Allen officiating. In honoring her wishes, following the funeral service she will be cremated, and inurnment will be held in Beverly Hills Memorial Garden in Westover, where she will be laid to rest with her family.
