Mary Ilana Prentiss, 77, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She was born June 21, 1935 in McKeesport, PA, a daughter of the late Arthur and Johanna Schnelzer Mayou. Survivors include her husband of nearly 53 years, Rev. Mr. Joseph Prentiss, whom she married January 9, 1960; four children, Joseph Blaise Prentiss and his wife Patti of Poland, OH, Mary Brenda Prentiss and Joseph Jude Prentiss, both at home, and Mary Paula Fleming and her husband Kevin of Medford, NJ; and five grandchildren, Brandon and Lindsey Hardin, and Owen, Cole and Noah Fleming. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Randolph Prentiss and Joseph Bartholomew Prentiss; one brother, Arthur Mayou and one sister, Dorella Broskovic. Ilana was a member of St. John University Parish and was very devout in her Catholic beliefs. She formerly was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was involved with the WPD (Wives of Permanent Deacons). Mrs. Prentiss's wishes for cremation have been honored by her family. A memorial visitation for Mrs. Prentiss and her son Bart, who passed away six years ago, will be held at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 8th. Additional visitation will be held at St. John University Parish on Wednesday from 10 AM until the 11 AM celebration of the joint Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Father John Peck, OSB, as celebrant.
