H.L. "Chick" Feathers, 93, of Bakers Ridge Rd., Morgantown, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at Sundale Nursing Home of Morgantown, WV.
Chick was born in Terra Alta, WV on April 22, 1919, a son of the late John Scott Feathers and the late Maude Rodeheaver Feathers.
He spent 35 years with the Montgomery Ward Corporation, first off working in the Auto Department and eventually retiring as one of the store managers from the Mountaineer Mall location. An avid golfer, he was a charter member of the Pines Country Club and played golf there until the age of 88.
Chick was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having served as an apprentice seaman during World War II. He loved gardening vegetables and gave just as much away as he grew.
Survivors include his three children, Donald L. Feathers and his wife Connie of Reedsville, John E. Feather of Morgantown and Pamela Jo Rotella and her husband Mike of Cleveland, OH; six grandchildren, including Lynn Morris and her husband Gary, Robert Feathers and his wife Pam, Mark Feathers and his wife Pam, Samantha Jo Feather, Heidi Jo Siegel and her husband Philipp and Anthony Rotella; and his great-grandchildren, Christian Haislip, Melissa Morris, Nicholas Morris, Jolynn Dawn Feathers, Jacob Devault, Jonathan Feathers and Michaela Siegel; and his companion, Jean Calvert of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Eloise Blosser Feathers and 12 brothers and sisters.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Sty., Morgantown from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday, January 17th, and again on Friday, January 18th from 10 Am until the time of the service at 11 AM with Reverend David Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover, where full military honors will be accorded at the graveside.
