James David Nefflen, 63, of Delaware Ave., Morgantown, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born in Elkins, WV on July 1, 1949, a son of the late Louis Henry Nefflen and the late Irene (Legg) Nefflen. Survivors include his seven brothers and sisters, including Louis Henry Nefflen, Jr. and his wife Leslie of Kerr, WV, George William Nefflen of Riviera Beach, FL, Beverly Blayne Randolph and her husband Kenneth of Morgantown, Mary Elizabeth Nefflen and Robert Ewalt Nefflen both of Elkins, WV, Rebecca Sue Joyner and her husband Greg of Conyers, GA, and Linda Kay Beer and her husband Thomas of Kennesaw, GA; a friend, who was more like a son to him, Donald Bruce Sacks of Morgantown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Paul Eugene Nefflen. Mr. Nefflen was a proud United States Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam conflict. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded during his tour of duty there. He was a member of Westover VFW Post 9916, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 306, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Disabled American Veterans. An avid golfer, he was a member of a foursome with Paul Ragland, Bill Quigley and his brother-in-law, Ken Randolph since 1977. He will be remembered as a very kind and giving man, who was always willing to help other people in their time of need. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Sunday, February 17th from 2-5 PM and again on Monday, February 18th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Father Mike Hadaway officiating. Family and friends will then gather at 10 AM on Tuesday, February 19th at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, where the graveside committal service with Full Military Honors will be held. Those wishing to attend the committal service at the cemetery are respectfully asked to gather by 9:50 AM Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Nefflen's memory may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Roy Rhodes Chapter 306, PO Box 859 Morgantown, WV 26507, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
