Peggy, family and friends: I was stunned to read Scott B's eulogy on WVU's website regarding Nick's passing. I was also taken by surprise by how sad I felt that he was gone. I haven't kept in touch with anyone from those days and yet Nick and the others were truly my family for so many wonderful years of my life in Morgantown. I had taken about twelve steps back (in a big way) in my short television production career when Nick gave me an opportunity to work for him at WVU. I too was intimidated by Nick's tough exterior but after you spent time with him on and off the "field" you realized what a wonderfully passionate, compassionate and vulnerable guy he was. He allowed me to express myself creatively in so many ways and I never got the sense that he wanted or needed the "credit" (which is sooooo rare in that business) but respected me for my contribution. I know that time softens all our memories but I can honestly say that this is a man who touched so many lives in so many ways and it was an honor to share a small part of my life with him. G. Nick you will be missed! Peggy please accept my thoughts and prayers.

I was a majorette in the Camden High School Panther Band and when we did field performances Nick was the first one behind me and always kidded me about being his "leader". He was a great guy and I'll miss seeing him at reunions but hope to see him at the big one on judgment day.

I think, next to my Father, Nick Smith was the most influential man in my life. He gave me my first job in television 33 years ago. He introduced me to my wife of 27 years.
