Obituary of Billie Mildred Christina Knight
Please share a memory of Billie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
April 22, 2013 with her family by her side.
Billie was born to Claude Frank and Hazel Bayles DeVall in Valley Point, Preston County.
She graduated from Morgantown High School and was married to Dr. Robert Wayne Knight in 1943. After Dr. Knight's service in World War II, and graduation from Optometry school in Chicago, he and Billie resettled in Morgantown where he established his practice. Later, Billie worked with her husband as a Visual Training Specialist. She was also the Nursery Director at Morgantown's Wesley Methodist Church where she had long been a member.
In December of 1994, Billie moved to Bumpass, VA to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Wayne Anderson. Billie enjoyed her later years in Virginia where she was a member of Bethany Christian Church and active in the church's Seniors Group. She enjoyed spending time with her family in Virginia, as well as reading, crocheting, and even up to her final days, taking a daily walk outside. Billie could always be counted on to find that missing piece of any jigsaw puzzle! She also tolerated her three grand-dogs: Alex, Anna and Ginger. A special memory was the family's trip to the Outer Banks for Thanksgiving 2011 where Billie supervised dinner preparations and was the official dessert taste tester.
Billie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Optometric Association Auxiliary.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. R. Wayne Knight, and her brothers: Dwight, Hu, Herbert, Marsh, and Max DeVall and sisters Irene Joseph and Virginia Marshall.
Surviving family members include Billie's children, Marilyn Knight Anderson (Wayne) of Bumpass, VA; Robert Wayne Knight, Jr. (Ann) of Howard, OH; and Carolyn Knight Willingham (Mac) of Leesburg, VA. Grandchildren left to cherish her memory are Jeff Anderson (Stephanie) of Mechanicsville, VA, Laurie Anderson Cooper (Gary) of Zion Crossroads, VA, Melissa Anderson Roden (Edwin) of Mechanicsville, VA; Brian Knight (Kim) of Fairmont, WV, Molly McKinney (Chris) of New Albany, OH; Kelsey Willingham of Arlington, VA; and Connor Willingham, of Leesburg, VA. Billie was also the very proud great-grandmother of seven. Also surviving are her younger brother Don DeVall (Billie Jo) of Morgantown, WV; and a dearly loved sister-in-law, Betty Hall of Mulberry, FL. .
A graveside service for family and close friends was held at the Miller Family Cemetery in Preston County on Saturday, April 27, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, North Central WV Chapter, 1110 Prestwick Ave., Morgantown, WV 26508 or the Central India Christian Mission at www.indiamission.org.
