Obituary of John Franklin Powell

John Franklin Powell, 71, of Hagerstown, MD passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center of Hagerstown, MD. John was born in Monongalia County on March 24, 1942, the son of the late John Powell and Margaret (Hilling) Powell. He was a truck driver having driven for a trucking firm in Maryland. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Shirley M. Snyder Powell, his daughters, Deborah I. Clevenger of Cowen, WV and Cynthia Brooks and husband Kenneth of Webster Springs, WV; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Roger Powell and wife Bobbie of Morgantown, WV, Mike Powell and wife Sue of Monongah, WV and Terry Powell and wife Linda of Tucson, AZ.; step-daughter Sabre and step-son Alan and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by, his faithful canine companion, Daisy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Sandy Jo, brother Larry Allen and stepson, Michael. Family and friends will be received at Nicholson Chapel Church on Friday, July 26 from 12:00pm (Noon) until the time of the funeral service at 2:00pm with Reverend Elmer Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow atNicholson Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Nicholson Chapel Church, 1326 Summers School Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
