Obituary of Ralph Edward Schlobohm

Ralph Edward Schlobohm, 90, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully late Wednesday evening, July 24, 2013 at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born in Morgantown on November 22, 1922, the son of the late George Schlobohm and the late Ida Blanche (Conard) Schlobohm.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 62 years , Luella Hastings Schlobohm; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ross and Arlene Schlobohm of Lake O' Woods, and Gary and Maria Schlobohm of Morgantown; five grandchildren, Lori Gyorko and husband Randy of Morgantown, Brooke Early and husband William of Chesapeake, VA, Kristi Koon and her husband Tim of Fairmont, Heather Gilliland and husband Sean of San Francisco, CA and Scott Schlobohm and his wife Cate of Morgantown; and three great-grandchildren, Colin Gyorko, Hank Early, Sadie Early and soon to arrive, Harper Koon..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Schlobohm and a sister, Phyllis Grey.
He was a graduate of Morgantown High School, class of 1940 and worked for the former Cowan Bakery, and DuPont Co. before proudly joining and serving with the US Navy during World War II as a Fighter Pilot. He then flew with the Navy Blue Angel Air Show for eight months before separating from the Navy.
He graduated from WVU in 1949 with a Business Degree. He then went to work at Sterling Faucet Co. for the next 24 years. He then went into business for himself, opening Landmark Builders, a home construction company. Then in 1974, he purchased Hughart's Plumbing. By the time of his retirement in 1994, he saw Hughart's grow to three locations serving Morgantown and the surrounding areas.
Along with his wife, he was a member of Spruce St. United Methodist Church. He served three terms on Morgantown City Council, served on the Morgantown Community Development Citizen's Advisory Committee, and was a past President of the Lake of the Woods, Secretary of the Mountaineer Coin Club, was a member of the Morgantown Shrine Club, served on the Board of Senior Monongalians. His hobbies included hunting, sailing, genealogy, coin collecting and playing Bridge.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Sunday, July 28th from 1-4 PM. On Monday, July 29, Mr. Schlobohm will be moved to the Spruce St. United Methodist Church where he will lay in repose from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Reverend Dr. Timothy J. Allen officiating, assisted by Jack Johns. He will be laid to rest with full military honors accorded at the graveside in the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
