Obituary of Valda Pearl Darnell

Pearl Darnell, 89, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Mapleshire Nursing Home in Morgantown. She was born in Monongalia County, WV, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Hattie O'Neal. Mrs. Darnell was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Cheat Lake United Methodist Church. She volunteered serving the needy with Meals on Wheels in Monongalia County and travelled the world with the Monongalia County Homemakers Association. She also enjoyed quilting with her church family. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Edwin Ralph Darnell; two sons, Barry Darnell and his wife Marianne of Morgantown and Leo Darnell and his wife Donnie of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Eddie Darnell of Preston County, Barry Darnell, Jr. of North Carolina, and Michelle Menefee of Virginia; six great grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua, Carina, Nichole, Leah and Noah Darnell; and one brother, Verlin "Dick" O'Neal of Florida. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Darnell was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald Lee Darnell. Friends and family will be received at the Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, from 12 Noon - 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 10, 2013. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 2:00 PM with her son and grandson, Pastor Barry Darnell and Pastor Barry Darnell Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery at Pisgah.
