Dr. MacDowell taught me in Freshman General chemistry in 1964, he mentored me in my Christian faith while I was at WVU, and he kept up with me via telephone several times during my adult years. I will always remember him as a brilliant, kind, and energetic fellow. I needed a lot of support my freshman year, and he graciously guided me in academics and personally. RIP, Dr. MacDowell. The music accompanying his obituary is beautiful..... could it be his musical children provided this???

Dr. MacDowell was a wonderful help to Rachel and me in our early days of marriage at WVU. We loved going to his home on Sunday afternoon for Bible study. He taught us so much about the Holy Scriptures. He and Evelyn always seemed so glad when we attended the studies. They provided a great example of a Christ centered marriage and home. Even though we had not seen him for years he was very dear to us. May God's richest blessing be upon you as you say good by to him. Numbers 6:24-26

It was always a pleasure seeing Denis in his blue Toyota Rav-4. He always wore a smile and the sight of him lifted my spirits. We became close through the years and I was sad to read of his passing via his obituary notice in today's newspaper. He will be missed at University Toyota and I'll never forget the time he stripped his windshield wiper motor gears trying to use the wipers that had frozen to the windshield. Rest In Peace Denis. You are with the Good Lord now.

I had the honor of working for Dr. MacDowell at WVU from 1962-1967, and have kept in touch over the years. Not only were he and Evelyn faithful financial supporters of my work with Wycliffe Bible Translators until my retirement, but also good friends. He was a wonderful person and I will always have fond memories of him. My sincere sympathy goes out to his family during this time. Looking forward to seeing both he and Evelyn in heaven one day!

Dear Family of Professor McDowell, I am currently in California and unable to extend my sympathy in person, but wanted to let you know how much I treasured my interactions over the years withcDr. McDowell. Although I am also Professor Emeritus, I could never address him by other than Professor, since in my opinion he was the ultimate educator that we all hoped to emulate. Dr. MacDowell was my brother in prayer. I will miss the hundreds of Saturday mornings we spent at Bob Evans sharing breakfast and rich conversation on things of the Lord. He was a second Dad to me and stood by our family in difficult times. His depth of the Word of God is to be respected for he loved his Lord and loved to share the good news to anyone. I look forward to seeing him in Heaven for he was a faithful and true servant to mankind for Christ's sake. I thank my God for the grand privilege of knowing him for over 50 years.
