Obituary of Joan Claire Demer Buckman

Joan Claire Demer Buckman, 93, of Morgantown, and formerly of the Binghamton, NY area, passed away Wednesday evening, February 26, 2014 at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born in Ashland, KY on April 30, 1920, a daughter of the late Frank Demer and the late Eleanor (O'Brien) Demer.
Survivors include her five children, Kathleen Feher and her husband Andras of Morgantown with whom she made her home for the last four years, Robert Patrick Buckman, Jr. of Pinellas Park, FL, Joan Elizabeth Hillman and her husband Rich of Raleigh, NC, Mary Jane Haney and her husband Richard of Endicott, NY and Therese Marie Mehringer and her husband Anthony of Wilmington, DE; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jane TenEyck of Concord, CA and Sara McGinty of Redondo Beach, CA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Patrick Buckman, Sr on March 4, 1970; and two sisters, Mary McGowan and Ann Marks.
Joan was a very faith-filled woman, having been a life-long member of St. Patrick's Church in Binghamton, NY. Anything involving her church was very important to her. Locally, she attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Star City, where she was involved with the funeral choir and donating many volunteer hours. She enjoyed needlework, making quilts for Birthright of Morgantown. She was known to be a great pie maker and was a fan of the Cincinnati Red Legs (commonly known as the Cincinnati Reds babesball team). She was a very classy lady, who always maintained an air of personal dignity about her, and will be missed by all who knew her.
In honoring Joan's wishes, she will be cremated.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 15th at 11 AM in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Family and friends may call at the church one hour prior to the Mass (from 10-11 AM). Inurnment will take place in the Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Abandoned Children's Fund, P.O.
