Lucy K. Guariglia, 89, of Westover, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family, friends and caretakers.
Lucy was born October 14, 1924 in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Cimino) Riggie.
She is survived by her son, Armand B. Guariglia and his companion, Cindy Stone of Naples, FL; her daughter, Mary Theresa Sellaro and her husband John of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Brendan and Victoria Sellaro, and Sherry McCarthy; and two great-grandchildren, Madelyn McCarthy and Kaylyn Petitte.
In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Armando J. Guariglia on September 14, 2007; and her younger sister and brother, Mary T. Riggie and Frankie Riggie.
Lucy was a graduate of University High School and a long time member of St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker, who was always delighted to share in the company of others and reminisce of old times. She loved working in her flower bed, gardening, baking, and preparing large family meals.
Lucy was also a dedicated caretaker of her brother, Frankie, and her mother, Mary. Furthermore, her family and friends will greatly miss her sense of humor and uplifting personality.
Lucy’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to caregivers Pauline Clark, Star McDonald, Gladys Kuria, and Lisa Rouse of Visiting Homemakers, Senior Monongalians, Chantel Goode, LPN, Vicki Perry, RN and Priscilla Rondy, RN of Morgantown Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Thursday, June 5th from 4-8 PM. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM on Thursday in the funeral home to conclude the visitation.
On Friday, June 6th, Mrs. Guariglia will be moved to St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City, where she will lay in repose from 10 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in East Oak Grove Cemetery.
