I had the pleasure and joy of meeting Marty when he invited me to give a talk at WVU Physics around 1995. I was a young assistant professor trying to establish myself and quite characteristically Marty lend a helping hand to show he was interested in and intrigued by the work we were doing. He made sure I was well cared for and got to meet many members of the Physics faculty during my visit. He took me to NETL and told me all about the work there. We kept in touch for many years thereafter. It is very sad to see he is no more. He was a remarkably generous and smart physicist. How I wish I could talk to him again. My prayers for him on his continued journey beyond life.

The world lost a very good man with Dr. Ferer's passing. As a former graduate student of his more than 35 years ago, I am especially grateful to him for his guidance and inspiration. My most sincere sympathy and prayers are with his family in their time of sorrow.

For some 20 years, MARTY was one of my closest professional and personal friends, doing many things in research that I strongly felt could and should be done, but which neither I nor any one of my other colleagues had the ability to perform. Time and again Marty took an ill-defined idea that I asked him to work on. And enthusiastically, and with persistence and great skill he produced research results that I was pleased to be associated with, however small my own contribution had been. I was immensely gratified that Marty realized time and again a sustained goal of my own: to work on applied problems, but in a way that advanced fundamental physics while making break-through contributions to the applied field. Usually these were problems for which existing approaches were making little progress.
Regina and I always enjoyed celebrating Marty's and her birthdays together with Marty & Mary. A great loss . . . .
Marty, THANKS ! it was great working with You!
