Obituary of Harry LeRoy Areford, Sr.

Harry LeRoy Areford, Sr., 78, of Stewartstown Rd., Morgantown, passed away Tuesday morning, June 24, 2014 at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown.
He was born in Bruceton Mills, WV on April 5, 1936, a son of the late Howard Areford and the late Dorothy (Wheeler) Areford.
Mr. Areford was a member of the Fresh Harvest Assembly of God. He retired from West Virginia University as a Mechanic and served his country in several capacities in the United States Army. In his free time, he was an active volunteer for over twenty years in the Boy Scouts and was an avid golfer and woodworker. He had a love for going to car shows and was a co-owner of a 1928 Model A Ford. He also previously raced cars at the Morgantown Speedway.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Wanda Louise Baker Areford; his sons, Harry Areford, Jr. and his wife Kathy, and David Areford and his wife Carol all of Morgantown; his grandchildren, Winston McHenry, II, Martin McHenry, Walter McHenry, Christopher Areford, and Ashley Areford; his great-grandchildren, Morgan McHenry, Wyatt McHenry, Kylee McHenry, Jackson McHenry, Aubrey Watkins and Raylyn Watkins; and his brothers and sisters, Allan Areford and his wife Marilee, Carol Sliker and her husband Frank, Ruth Baker and her husband Vaughn, Linda Mills, and Avalon Kenneth Hawkins and his wife Debbie.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Areford, Jr. and George Areford; and step father, Avalon Hawkins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Sundale Nursing Home for their wonderful care.
Friends and family will be received at the Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Thursday, June 26th from 4-8 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday, June 27th from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM with Pastor David Hood officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. Full military funeral rites will be conducted at the graveside by VFW Post 9916 in Westover.
